Hannie Joziasse, nature photography
Let me briefly introduce myself:
I was born in 1948 at Serooskerke (on the island of Walcheren) and live in Middelburg (both in the Dutch province of Zeeland).

At the age of 16 I was already greatly interested in wild flowers; I started collecting plants, pasting them in a herbarium, but I longed for a genuine SLR camera to take macro shots. In 1967 I followed the advice of my parents - "rather buy a simple camera first and learn what photography is all about" – and bought my first 35-mm camera (Ilford Sportsman) with a separate exposure meter. I studied the difference between large and small aperture with depth of focus and used an ancillary lens with the aid of a ruler. Two years later I realised one of my biggest dreams by buying the first colour slide film, Agfachrome CT 18, followed in 1970 by my first SLR camera, an Asahi Pentax with Takumar lens, still with a separate exposure meter and a set of extension tubes. I started out taking black-and-white photographs, and later went on to colour slides.
My finest black-and-white shot was of a spider’s web. At the time, wild flowers were also one of my points of particular interest, but later I concentrated on a larger variety of subjects.
In 1972 I started darkroom work and for 18 years I developed and enlarged my own negatives.
For the photographs on my home page I use a NIKON Super Coolscan 5000 ED slidescanner.
Looking around in nature fascinates me; I like spring and autumn best, the former season with its new young leaves and the autumn because of its brilliant colours.
In all seasons I take a special interest in mushrooms, plants, landscapes, sand dunes, the sea, trees, lichens and mosses, butterflies, dragon flies, sunsets, insects, water, raindrops, hoarfrost on leaves, the texture of ferns, sand, mosses, tree bark etc.
My favourite spots are:Ter Hooge (Middelburg), Oranjezon, Oranjebosch, Rammekenshoek, the ‘Schotsman’, Schuddebeurs, the "Manteling" of Walcheren and various other nature regions in The Netherlands and Europe, e.g. The Eifel, Hungary, France and the Alps.
